Southend Mayor supports Open Arts showcase March 25, 2009

showcase-0552 showcase-0252 showcase-0111

On Thursday 5th March, the Southend Central Library was host to some rather alternative activity. An art exhibition and day of events took place in Focal Point Gallery, based in the Library, to celebrate South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust’s Award winning Open Arts project, and all that has been achieved in its first year of running projects.

The celebrations included a showcase of a selection of artworks from the last year that displayed the range of high quality works that the groups have produced. There were also taster workshops throughout the day in drumming, Thai Chi, animation and silk painting, all which were well attended and proved to be effective and interesting. Participants were energised by the drumming, relaxed by the Thai Chi, engrossed in the animation and hoots of laughter and chatting waved across the gallery from the silk painting workshop.

The community gathered together at 1pm to hear some wise and kind words from the Mayor, Councillor Gwen Horrigan, who emphasised the value of the project in benefiting the individual as well as the local community, by breaking down boundaries.

The animation created at  the workshop will be available to view here shortly.
