This is a day of presentation and discussion on arts, health and community projects. If you are a student in arts, health or social care, a graduate, or an artist, health or social care worker seeking insight into how to set up and deliver arts projects with groups, then this is for you. Choose from any one of the talks, or attend the whole day for maximum benefit. Free with tea and coffee provided.
10am – Arts and Health project presentation– Introduction to participatory arts and health project Open Arts. This talk will cover an overview of the project planning, structure and set up of the groups, including a focus on some case study material.
11am – Essex Public Health Team– an introductory talk describing Mental Health First Aid, an accredited training course designed as an introduction and toolkit in demystifying mental health, and what to do in a crisis situation.
11.30am Inside the mind of an artist – Presentations & Discussions with local artists Chris Ruston and Alan Hockett around their creative process and practice:
Chris Ruston graduated with BA(Hons) in Fine Art in 1982. She then trained as An Art Psychotherapist in 1989. She has worked in the NHS for 28 years, initially full time, and then part time since 1994. She has always maintained her own art practice alongside her work as an Art Psychotherapist. Chris works predominately with paper and ink, and is currently producing both paintings and Artists Books.
Alan Hockett is a Leigh based artist who uses the local landscape to capture stunning shots of individual moments in time. Since finishing his fine art degree in 2001, he has worked in participatory arts working with Groups such as open arts, teenage mothers, Youth offending and the drug and alcohol team.
2pm Essex County Arts Development Team – through this information talk on Essex Small Grants, find out how to apply for your own grant of up to £2500 to run arts projects in Essex. This year the focus is on arts and health.
